We believe that if planning permission is granted for Tesco in Ottery, the town’s vibrant shopping community will wither and die. We are determined to stop that happening.
The reality if Tesco is granted planning permission …
- An increase in traffic and congestion - Erosion of local choice
- Destruction of local jobs - A tatty and unappealing place to live?
- Closure of shops in surrounding villages
We don’t need Tesco in Ottery!

Land of Canaan to Kings' School footpath/cyclepath
From Cllr Roger Giles
"Dear All
First of all a big thank you: for your efforts in the past (including writing to the Chief Execs of DCC and EDDC a couple of months ago when they were at loggerheads, and the scheme was stalled); and recently. Especially if you attended the meeting of the EDDC Executive Board last night. If you were there you will know that there was a very good outcome: It was agreed:
2 "the District Council enters into a Memorandum of Agreement with Sustrans to host the project and manages the project budget"
3 "That planning permission be sought for the development as well as the necessary environment agency consents to brdge the river Otter"
4 "A capital bid is made for #101,500 as EDDC`s share of the project cost."
Once again many thanks; I truly believe that your help was invaluable."
ROGER GILES
