News

Sustainable Ottery has recently set up a BLOG (weB LOG) to capture discussions on topics currently of interest. There are a also a variety of Subgroups of Sustainable Ottery and a story/ thread has been included on ther BLOG for each of these.

The main BLOG can be found at SO Blog

Currently the subgroups are:

Heart and Soul;

  A group working with our hopes and fears in the changing times we live in: the heart and soul group is intended as a forum where we can share how it is for us as human beings to confront the ecological devastation and perilous times we live in. Here is a place where we can acknowledge how it feels and look at how relocalising our community will shape our relationship with the world and each other.

 Transport;

  How do we make better use of exisiting/ improved local transport systems. What do we need to make it work better? What about car sharing schemes. Can we really afford to continue to make extensive use of our cars, usually at least half empty of passengers?

What are your views?

Art and Creativity;

  If you are interested in art and creativity and the way that it can be used to strengthen community, brighten our surroundings, interpret our heritage or just want to have fun with art and culture please join the Art and Creativity Sub Group.

Plastic Bags and Packaging;

  There is a tremendous negative impact on the environment from the use of plastic bags. What about the use of biodegradable bags such as those in Modbury ? Or remember to take a re-usable bag with you!

Energy;

  Presently we rely on fossil fuels for every single thing in our daily lives - so the challenge of attempting to cut our dependence on them and shift to renewable energy sources is both daunting and huge. The channels of communication and networking that are provided through such marvels as this blog can only help us on our way.

Looking forward to blogging towards sustainability

Locally Produced Food

  Support for local producers and suppliers not only helps local enterprise but also mitigates the environmental impact caused by transporting over large distances

Factory Futures

  Looking at the possible reuses for the Factory Site with special emphasis (as of now) to fight the 'proposal' for a supermarket on the site
