Say NO! To Sainbury's

SAINSBURY'S EXHIBITION - SATURDAY, 27TH FEBRUARY 10 - 6 , THE OLD BOYS' SCHOOL, YONDER STREET, OTTERY ST. MARY.

Dear all,

Just in case you weren't aware, Sainsbury's are holding a second public exhibition on Saturday. You will be able to drop in and quiz the people there. You may wish to ask about

a) the huge size of the store in a small town and the impact upon our local shops
b) the extra traffic likely along our streets and known bottle-necks
c) the lack of car parking spaces for the size of the store and the repercussions for those wanting to shop in town
d) the issue of 2-hours of free parking - has this been finalised? Will we have to visit the store to get any tickets validated?
e) the disappearance of the public conveniences in Hind Street

Just in case you need more facts and figures, below is a slightly amended version of the Sainsbury's leaflet that we distributed in December, which you may find useful. If you wish to print this out in leaflet form please click on the above button to download a copy (in word).

We will also be there on Saturday and will distribute the leaflet to any visitors to the exhibition. We are drawing up a rota of volunteers to help us do this. Could you spare some time on Saturday to help us give out leaflets please? Any amount of time, no matter how small, would be appreciated. Why not combine a visit to the exhibition with a visit to the Community Market (9.30 - 12.30) in the Institute, which is opposite the Old Boys' School. Maybe we can entice the exhibitors across the road to meet the stallholders for a taste of Ottery community.

You may also be aware in the recent Ottery Herald that DCC have no objections to the Sainsbury's traffic report! This is quite a disturbing development as the increase in traffic for Ottery will be horrendous. We need to make our objections about this loud and clear. At the time of sending this, there is no comfirmed date nor venue for the EDDC planning meeting about the supermarkets but we will alert you as soon as we know.
